| Question : |
Hello, I have just purchased your FP-N40CX and I noticed that it has a 3 step filtration. The pre-filter, the carbon filter and the Hepa filter. You mention that the carbon filter is washable and the Hepa isnt. What about the pre-filter? Can I clean that? Am I supposed to clean it? If so, how? There is nothing written in the manual about this. Thank a bunch. |
| Answer : |
Yes, the Pre-Filter is washable. You can run it under water to clean it ever 2 weeks or so, depending on how much dust it picks up during that period. Many customers also use their house hold hand vacs and clean it out via that method. Both methods are fine. Maintaining that pre-filter this way ensures that your air purifier is working at its peak. Furthermore, the Pre-Filter will never need to be replaced. Simply clean every two weeks or so and you should be fine. |

| Question : |
You constantly mention that viruses and such are rendered inactive and also show an animation of it getting destroyed... My question is, what happens to it? Does it fall to the ground and would require vacumming up? Would my floor end up with accummulated dead viruses and such?
Thank you.
Thai |
| Answer : |
After the viruses have been inactivated by Plasmacluster's ACTIVE Positive and Negative Ions, any remnants of the viruses are then filtered out of the air via PCI's top-notch Passive Multi-Layer Filtration System. That is PCI's unique advantage in utilizing both ACITVE and PASSIVE systems. |

| Question : |
My wife and I have recently purchased a CV-P09FX 5-in-one unit at the Bay and was wondering why we needed the exhaust hose attatched while in fan mode. We purchased the unit as a year-round device and for winter wanted an effective air-cleaning unit. Using the exhaust hose during these cold months may not be suitable. Are we to understand that this unit is not for year-round use in Canada.
INcidently, we are currently enjoying the unit and find the PCI technology amazing. |
| Answer : |
No, you can definitely use the unit all year round. The exhaust hose is used to let the undesirable warm or hot air from the compressor out the room. In winter, if no air conditioning is needed, the hose can be detached for just fan mode. Glad to see that you are finding our PCI technology beneficial. Hope this answers your question. |

| Question : |
Does the system effectively remove cat dander? If yes, why is it not clearly mentionned?
How much is a replacement hepa and carbon filter? |
| Answer : |
Yes, our Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifiers are effective against Pet Hairs and Cat Dander. There are often too many items to list in terms of what our Plasmacluster Ion Technology is truly effective against, and as a result, some do not get mentioned enough. As the Marketing Manager for this product, I will take your suggestion in stride and make sure to address this in all future communications regarding our technology. Thanks for pointing that out.
With regards to the Filter Replacement Kits, they are sold as a kit, consisting of 1 x True HEPA Filter, and 1 x Washable Charcoal Filter*(*Washable only in the FPN40CX and FPN60CX*) The MSRP for the Filter Replacement Kits are as follows.

| Question : |
I have a few questions:
1) Can your units (60, 40, & 25CX) be wall mounted?
2) Do the units need separate mounting kits?
3) Will this interfere with Smoke Detectors if wall mounted nearby?
4) Your pictures show the unit on the floor. I have a small child. Is it safe for her to have access to it, or could she potentially electrocute herself if she started playing with it, etc...?
Thanks |
| Answer : |
Andrew,
In answer to your questions,
1) No, they are not designed to be wall-mounted
2) Refer to 1st answer above
3) As mentioned above, they are not wall mountable. If you place the unit on the floor directly nearby a smoke detector, it may delay the response of the smoke detector, simply because it is filtering out all of most of the smoke. Of course, it would not be able to filter out 100% of the smoke depending on how much smoke there is. The simple answer is not to place the unit directly under a smoke detector.
4) Yes, the unit is completely safe to place on the floor. There is no danger of electrocution with the unit itself. However, as with all electrical appliances, the plug point into the wall should be out of reach from your child, as that always increases the chances of a potential accident. All of our PCI units are CSA approved, and are 100% safe to use in your home.
Hope that helps. |

| Question : |
Hi, I bought the FPN25CX. I noticed one side of the Carbon filter has a dark color and the other side has a light color. Which side should i place facing the front of the unit? Does the placement of it(like the True HEPA filter)matter? |
| Answer : |
With the Charcoal Filter, it does not matter which way you place it. Either way it will work just as fine. Hope that helps. |

|
| Question : |
I understand Sharps purification process, however, does your process remove the need for a hepa filter and Ultra Violet light? Noting that your product removes mold spores of up to 90% in 1 hr, does it remove 99% over a period of 24hrs? |
| Answer : |
It doesn't necessarily remove the need of a HEPA filter, but in actual facts works together to provide a complete air purification system. Ultra Violet Light is another method of purification. It is PASSIVE in nature, as it requires the air borne contaminants to be pulled in through the unit to be "treated". Overall, the effectiveness of this type of air purification is limited to the amount of new air it can bring into the unit. Changes in the air flow caused by movement, an open door or window etc. That is why I call it PASSIVE. PASSIVE systems on their own cannot effectively clean the air. HEPA Filters are also PASSIVE, but important nonetheless. Our PCI System utilizes both ACTIVE Plasmacluster Ion Technology and PASSIVE Multi-layer Filtration systems. The ACTIVE system sends out Positive & Negative Ions to "SCRUB" the air clean, constantly showering the room to ensure that any changes of air flow and new air is constantly kept clean. No other air purifier on the market can do this. Add to that our top notch multi-layer filtration system, and you have a complete air purification system.
And yes, in just over 1 hour, nearly 100% of mold spores are removed.
Hope this helps. |

| Question : |
There appears to be lots of netative press about ion generating filtration products. These products were banned in Canada. Why is your product different ? |
| Answer : |
First, let me distinguish the difference between "Ionizers", and Plasmacluster Ion Technology. "Ionizers" produce ONLY NEGATIVE IONS, while Plasmacluster Ion Technology is the only technology in the world to use BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE IONS. With negative ions only, you do not inactivate any contaminants, but simply add weight to the particles so that they drop to the ground. The danger is that they are still ACTIVE and can still HARM you. However, with Plasmacluster Ion's POSITIVE and NEGATIVE ions, the contaminant is INACTIVATED, rendered harmless and therefore CANNOT HARM you. Consumer reports conquered that these "Ionizers" do not work, and moreover produce large amounts of Ozone. For the record, Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifiers generate less than 0.001 ppm of ozone. That is more than 50 times less than the legal limit. The bottom line, Plasmacluster Ion Air Purfiers work much better at cleaning the air than the competition, and do not produce dangerous amounts of ozone in the process. The reality is that there are a wide range of electrical appliances that give off ozone. Health Canada has established two basic guidelines in regards to ozone. #1 - You cannot use ozone as a means of air purification. #2 - Incidental production of ozone cannot exceed 0.05 ppm (parts per million). Again, our Plasmacluster Ion air purifiers generate less than 0.001 ppm, which is more than 50 times less than the legal limit. |

| Question : |
Is the FP-N60CX effective if the windows are open?
Does having the windows open decrease the units effectiveness?
In the summer our place gets very hot if we close the windows. |
| Answer : |
Yes, the FPN60CX is still effective if the window is open. Obviously, in a closed environment, the air purifier will work more efficiently because there are no new sources of air for it to purify. So eventually, the air space is cleaned quickly. In an open door or open window environment, there is a constant source of new air being introduced. To combat this, Plasmacluster Ion produces a constant stream of Positive and Negative Ions, that are constantly working to "scrub" the air clean. So even in these conditions, you will find that our air purifiers work quite well. |
| |
|
| Question : |
What is the difference between a Hepa Filter and Plasmacluster?
What does the Plasmacluster do that a hepa filter doesnt do?
I am a single mother with twins (boy and girl). My son has asthma and I am looking into buying an air purifier. I live in a condominium. Unfortunately I have no knowledge on the subject so any information you can give me would be very helpful.
|
| Answer : |
Plasmacluster Ion Technology uses our patented Active technology that showers the room with Postive Hydrogen and Negative Oxygen Ions. These ions very simply go out into the air and seek out and inactivate many unwanted airborne contaminanats. That is why we call this technology "Active", because it actively goes out into the air to seek these contaminants out. In addition to our Active technology, we also employ the use of "Passive" Technology. This simply means the use of our multi-layer filtration system. We call it Passive because the air in the room needs to be pulled into the unit by the fan in order for it to be filtered. Our "Passive" system consists of a Pre-Filter, a Washable/Reusable Charcoal Filter, and a True HEPA Filter. In answer to your question, a HEPA filter traps 99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns or larger. In plain English, that means that it traps a lot of those microscopic dust mites and other airborne particles that can offer trigger allergic reactions. So in the end, our Plasmacluster Air Purifiers work so well because we are the only company in the world to have the ACTIVE Plasmacluster Ion Technology, and add to that the effectiveness of a "Passive" Multi-Layer filtration system. Truly, you get a combination of air purifiying techologies that work together in harmony to keep your air space clean. I hope this information helps you out, and if you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask. |

| Question : |
We would like to operate a humidifer in the same room as the Plasmacluster.
Is there a certain distance that we should keep the unit from the humidifier? |
| Answer : |
No, you don't need to really worry about the placement. If anything, a Humidifier may actually helpe the PCI unit work even better. Because the Humidifer adds moisture to the room, there are more H20 molecules in the air. If you study the science of Plasmacluster technology, you will find that the H20 molecules form the very basis of our technology, as the PCI Unit intakes H20 molecules and splits them up into their individual Hydrogen and Oxygen Ions. From there, it charges them with opposite charges and showers them back into the air. These oppositely charged ions is what seeks out and inactivates those unwante airborne contaminants. So referring back to your original question, no, you do not need to worry about any special placement of your PCI unit with reference to your humidifier. |

| Question : |
I have a question about the FPN25CX air purifier. Are the filters washable? Do we have to replace the filter AND how long does the filter last AND how much does the filter cost? |
| Answer : |
No, on the FPN25CX, the filters are not washable. The filters on the FPN25CX will last up to 2 years based on average use. Average use is defined by 8-10 ciggarettes/day. Depending on the amount of smoke and other airborne bacteria in your air space, you may get more or less usage out of the filters. We've found that 2 years is a good average for most consumers. The filter replacements will be sold as a kit, consisting of 1 x TRUE HEPA Filter with Anti-microbial coating as well as 1 x Charcoal Filter. Currently, this 2 Filter Pack for the FPN25CX has an MSRP of $89.99. |

| Question : |
Hi,
I bought a Plasmacluster 60 on Friday I believe so its only been about 4 full days so far. The unit has been very effective at getting dust and other floating debris out of the air. I also like that its a quiet unit. Im running it in a bedroom with the door closed.
Anyways, my question deals with the fact that I smell this sweet smell coming out of the exhaust since the first time I turned it on.. it almost smells like perfume even.
If I enter the room, I smell that sweetish smell instantly.
Is it ozone that Im smelling, or something from the charcoal filter as a faq asked about, or is it something else, like offgassing from new equipment?
Its just weird that it smells so sweet, Id prefer not to have any aerosol air freshener type deals happening as Im already sensitive to VOCs.
IS it ozone?
Thanks for any light you can shed on this matter.
Peter.
|
| Answer : |
No, rest assured that it is not ozone you are smelling. Our units omit almost no ozone at all, well below the allowable amount as dictated by Health Canada. What you are smelling is the sweetness of clean air. In Ion rich environments (like your room with our air purifier), you will notice a sweet, perfume like smell due to the high ion concentration in the room. Rest assured that it is not toxic and will not harm you in anyway. In fact, it will only enhance the air quality within that room. |

| Question : |
I just bought three of your Sharp FP-N60CX - but the lights on the front light up the bedroom at night - can one turn them off? do i have to use black electrical tape? I could almost read a book with them. Cheers |
| Answer : |
Yes, there is a way to turn off the Plasmacluster Light (BLUE LIGHT for CLEAN Mode, GREEN LIGHT for ION CONTROL MODE) On the supplied remote control, simply press the DISPLAY ON/OFF button. This will turn that particuar light off. There is no way to turn off the CLEAN SIGN INDICATOR Light, as this indicates the current air quality within the room. Hope that helps. |

| Question : |
I recently purchased a Sharp FPN25CX. Ive recently developed severe allergic symptoms, which could have to do with mould or pet dander--Im not sure yet.
Will this unit remove both mould spores and pet dander? Also, I am using it only in my bedroom right now, but if I were to place it in my living room (which is an open concept room and is bigger than the specified room size), will it do any good at all, or will it be a waste of energy and filter use?
Id also like to let you know that when I purchased this product at a Sears store, the salesperson misled me into believing that the carbon filter was washable, and that the HEPA filter would last 5 years. That was one factor that made me decide on this particular product, as there are many other air filters on the market that cost less for a similar-sized room area. It was only when I got the unit home and was able to read the instruction book that I realized he must have been talking about a different model.
What Im trying to get at is that your product is being sold by people who know nothing about it.
In fact, even the instruction guide is lacking in information. The guide does not explain how the unit works, consequently, it means little to me what the different modes do or what the advantage is to ion control or plasma mode, etc.
I just thought someone should be aware of that.
Thanks,
N. Smith |
| Answer : |
In answer to your first question, YES, our PCI Technology is effective at inactivating mould and mould spores, as well as significantly reducing the amount of pet hairs and pet dander in a room.
In answer to your second question, I do believe it would be effective in your living room. While it may not be as effective as one of our larger models, the constant stream of Plasmacluster Ions over an extended period of time will improve the air quality of that space. The official AHAM rating for square footage is based on the filters and fan speed only. There is no formal method of measuring the effective area of our Plasmacluster Ion shower, which in our labs has proven to be more than the AHAM rating. Having said that, we cannot officially say that our units cover more area than what AHAM rates us at, but we've found that many customers experience the benefits of this technology in rooms that are larger than the AHAM rating that accompanies each of our PCI models. |

| Question : |
FPN40CX
Is this air purifier good for those with bronchitis?
|
| Answer : |
While we cannot make any claims with regards to bronchitis specifically, we can say that our PCI Technology greatly reduces the amount of unwanted dust particles and other airborne contaminants that could aggrevate one with bronchitis. By no means are we saying that our Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifiers can cure bronchitis, but given what we can prove scientifically, it seems that it would at the very least help reduce the triggers |

| Question : |
I recently purchased the model number FP-N60CX air cleaner, and in reference to the owners manual, it states that a ticking sound would be coming from the unit when generating ions, I have listened closely and havent heard that sound, even when I have the feature enabled, does this mean the unit is not generating them properly? |
| Answer : |
Don,
We put that section in the manual because occasionally some of the ion generators do make a very faint ticking sound. It's almost like the ticking of a watch. However, our experience so far is that the ticking is so faint that most people can't hear it. The absence of the sound has no bearing on the unit working. I'm sure your unit is working fine - Of course, the true test is whether you find the air to be fresher than it was before!
Thanks,
Nick |

| Question : |
is room placement critical for these purifiers? is there an optimum place that allows for better filtration within the room? |
| Answer : |
With our PCI Air Pufifiers, you can be rather flexible with regards to room placement. Because of the constant ACTIVE Postive & Negative Ion Shower that is constantly being streamed out of the unit, the only advice I would offer would be to ensure that you do not cover or inhibit the airflow coming out from the back of the unit. Make sure that you leave enough clearance above the unit to insure that the Postive and Negative Plasmacluster Ions can flow freely. |

| Question : |
What is the difference in operating in Clean Mode and Ion Control Mode in a manual mode (Silent, Medium, High)? Air is drawn through the filter in both cases contantly. The only thing the manual states is that in Ion Control Mode it puts out more negative ions. Why is is neccesary to reduce the neagtive ion generation in clean mode? |
| Answer : |
Each Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifier comes with two operation modes.
In Clean Mode (the unit lights up BLUE), the unit showers the room with an equal ratio of POSITIVE Hyrdogen and NEGATIVE Oxygen Ions. This equal ratio of oppositely charged ions is vital for the inactivation of unwanted airborne contaminants. It is this equal ratio of Positive to Negative Ions that forms the basis of our Plasmacluster Ion Technology. For a very detailed explanation of this, visit our website (www.sharp.ca/pci).
In Ion Control Mode (the unit lights up GREEN), the unit showers the room with a greater ratio of NEGATIVE Oxygen Ions to Positive Hydrogen Ions. The reason this mode is included is because some people have the "perception" that Negative Ion rich environments feel refreshing or invigorating, like near a waterfall or shortly after it rain has settled onto the grass. These are typcially NEGATIVE ION Rich environments. However, there has been no formal scientific testing to validate this feeling, and therefore it is really only a perception.
Manual Mode has nothing to do with wither Clean Mode or Ion Control Mode, but rather refers to the speed of the Fan. The higher the fan speed, the more Positive and Negative Ions are showered throughout the room in a shorter period of time, and the more contaminants are pulled into the filters.
What I recommend is to keep the unit on Clean Mode (BLUE light) all the time. This uses the equal proportion of ions to actively seek out and inactivate those airborne contaminants.

| Question : |
Can you please let me know how the Plasmacluster can help alleviate my morning hayfever allergy attacks?
|
| Answer : |
Lori,
The morning allergy attack is one the most common issues we get calls about. During the night, things like dust mite allergen, pollen and bacteria settle onto surfaces (like bedspreads) because there is no air turbulence from us walking around. This calm time allows the particles to gentley sink and settle on any surface. In the morning, we pull back the covers and launch all of this material back into the air and then sit up into this concentration of allergens.
Now I know this doesn't sound to comforting yet, but I'm about to get to the good news. Our air purifiers combine 2 different technologies. Filtration, to help remove as many of these particles as possible and Plasmacluster to inactivate the ones the filter doesn't capture. In this way, we are able to help reduce the intensity and/or frequencey of morning allergy attacks.
Thanks,
Nick |

| Question : |
How long does the green light stay on when we start the machine for the first time? Thanks |
| Answer : |
That really depends on the quality of air in the room. The Clean Sign indicator light uses the built-in intelligent sensors (Odour Sensor in all Models, Odour and Dust Sensors in FPN60CX)guauges the quality of air and adjuts the fan speed and Ion mode accordingly to present room conditions. The Green Light means the air quality is good, the Amber Light indicates the air is somewhat unclean, and the Red Light means that the air quality is really unclean. These sensors control the fan speed only when the units are in AUTO mode, so the fan will not adjust speeds if you have forced the unit into any other modes. What I would recommend is to keep the unit in CLEAN Mode (Blue Light on the Plasmacluster Logo) for the first 2 hours or so when you've first placed the unit in a room. After that, switch the unit in the AUTO and let the intelligent sensors do the guess work for you. So if you see the Clean Sign Indicator ligth up Green, that is a good sign, and means that the unit is continually working to keep your air clean. |

| Question : |
My Condo size approx. 700 sq. ft. and I would like to know how to get away the cooking smell? |
| Answer : |
Our Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifies are great at reducing and often eliminating unwanted household odours, especially from kitchen environments. Depending on the size of yor kitchen, I would recommend either an FPN40CX or FPN60CX. These units include heavy-duty charcoal filters that are both washable and reusable. It is the charcoal filters in addition to our patented PCI Technology that helps eliminate those unwanted odours. Try placing one of these units in your kitchen either during, or directly after cooking. Leave it on its HIGH to MAX mode in the Blue CLEAN mode. I would let it run for at least 1 hour, and I'm sure you will notice a significant reduction in kitchen odours. |

| Question : |
During the winter months I spend 80% of my time indoors. During the summer months I am outside 50% of the time. I am an Asthma and allergy sufferer, my sinuses are constantly blocked. If I purchase a few of these units for my home and office, how will it affect my outdoor lifestyle? Will my allergies become worse when I am outside? How will I react when I travel for weeks at a time away from my PCI? Basically, will I become PCI dependant? |
| Answer : |
We have actually found that many of customers report finding the opposite effect. By having the PCI unit running in their homes, their immune system which was normally bombarded by dust, dust mites, and a host of unwanted contaminants commonly found in the home actually has a chance to build up. Instead of your immune system working overtime to fend off these household contaminants, PCI allows your immune system to build so that when you do start to spend more time outside during the warmer months, you are able to enjoy it that much more. |

| Question : |
Ive been told that ionization devices are hazardous to our health (especially at high levels) and can cause things like cancer. |
| Answer : |
Kevin,
Thank you for your question. No - Plasmacluster Ions do not cause cancer! The key thing to remember is that we are replicating what occurs naturally in places like a forest. In the forest you would typically find 4000 to 5000 each of positive and negative ions, in each cubic centimeter of air. These occur naturally and help to keep the air clean, or what some people would call 'sweet'. The topic of ionization can cover many substances. Remember that an ion is simply an atom that is either positively or negatively charged. The ions we produce are composed of either oxygen or hydrogen. These are two very common substances that our bodies interact with every day. I hope this helps answer your question. |

| Question : |
Amount of electricity required to operate. |
| Answer : |
Our Sharp Plasacluster Ion Air Purifiers are extremely energy efficient. When in HIGH Mode, the units take less electricty than a 60 watt light bulb. We averaged it out over 1 year, running 24 hours/day, 365 days/year to approximately $10 worth of electricity. Rest assured, these units are extremely energy efficient, and will not contribute to a large portion of your electricity bill. |

| Question : |
Hi,
I am very interested in purchasing your ion/plasma air filter model # FRN 60 CX. My question is about dog hair and if this model can help?
Thank you
Wade N. Clifton |
| Answer : |
Yes, absolutely. If you visit our "Testimonials" section of our PCI Website, you will notice that Warden Animal Hosptial has installed them throughout their facility. They have noticed a drastic reduction in the amount of odours and pet hairs within the facility.
Furthermore, our unit has a heavy-duty DC motor that pulls in a lot of air, and picks up significant amounts of pet hairs and cat dander. The Pre-Filter traps those larger particles, and never needs to be replaced. You can actually clean the Pre-Filter without even taking the Filter out of the unit. Just use a household vaccuum and clean it out every other week or so. You will find this unit very effective for what you want it to do. |

| Question : |
Hi,
I just bought a FPN40CX for my bed room. I suffer of dust mites allergy. Unfortunately, I do not find anywhere on your web site or in the user manual a clear explanation of the different operation modes of the unit. I do not know when it is best to operate the unit in clean mode, in -ion mode or auto mode. I would appreciate if you can provide me with more details on the different operation modes and when to use each one of the mode so I can get the best of it.
Best regards,
|
| Answer : |
Each Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifier comes with two operation modes.
In Clean Mode (the unit lights up BLUE), the unit showers the room with an equal ratio of POSITIVE Hyrdogen and NEGATIVE Oxygen Ions. This equal ratio of oppositely charged ions vital for the inactivation of unwanted airborne contaminants.
What I recommend is to keep the unit on Clean Mode (BLUE light) all the time. This uses the equal proportion of ions to actively seek out and inactivate those airborne contaminants.

| Question : |
I would like to know if your PCI unit will clear the air of the smell and fumes from newly laid carpeting. |
| Answer : |
Absolutely. Our Sharp Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifiers are extremely effective and removing unwanted odours from the air, including any chemical off-gasing or fumes that may come from rencent home renovations such as new carpeting, flooring, or painting. What I would recommend would be to keep the unit on MAX mode in the Clean Mode (Blue Light) for at least 24-48 hours. This will allow it to work at its highest speed to quickly and effectively remove those unwanted odours. I am sure that within a day or so you will notice a dramatic reduction in the amount of odour in that room. |

| Question : |
What is the main difference between the 3 models ?
We have 2 bedrooms and would like to know if I should put rather one 60cx unit in the corridor or get 2 25cx, one per room ?
Thanks
|
| Answer : |
The main difference between the two models would be the effective area that they cover. The FPN25CX is AHAM rated at 132 sq. feet, the FPN40CX is AHAM rated at 252 sq. feet, while the FPN60CX is AHAM rated at 330 sq. feet. Other than this key difference, the FPN25CX has no Pre-Filter, the Charcoal Filter is not washable, and both the Charcoal filter as well as the combination Antibacterial and True HEPA filter have an expected life of 2 years. On the FPN40CX and FPN60CX, there is Pre-Filter that never needs replacing, a Washable Charcoal filter that is rated at 3-5 years, and a combination Anti-Bacterial and True HEPA filter that is also rated at 3-5 years.
In your particular case, depending on the size of each room, you could go with the 2 x FPN25CXs. The FPN60CX is more appropriate for a large rooms (330 sq feet or approx 20' x 17'ft) or open living areas such as the living room and open kitchen combinations. If you place the FPN60CX in the corridor, it may not be able to flow freely into each of the two rooms. If the doors to those rooms are frequently left open, then perhaps the FPN60CX in the corridor would work for the two rooms. It really depends on how you live. Many customers like to place the FPN60CX in high traffic areas like corridors, open concept kitchens, and living rooms and have reported positive results. If one of those two rooms is occupied by someone who is suffering from asthma or allergies, then I would highly recommend having at least 1 unit in that room for optimal effectiveness. Hope that helps. |

| Question : |
We have alot of airborne dust in the house. Will this unit filter it out or simply neutralize it?
Thanks
Jon |
| Answer : |
Our Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifiers do not simply neutralize dust, but actually eliminate it from the air. The Pre-Filter traps the larger dust particles from the air, as well as pet hairs, cat danders, and large unwanted particulates. This filter never needs to be replaced, and can be easily cleaned with a houshold vacuum cleaner. We've designed the unit so that you do not even need to take the Pre-Filter out of the unit to clean it. This was to ensure ease of use for the customer. In addition to this, the long-life TRUE HEPA Filter will trap 99,97% of all dust particles 0.3 microns or larger. In plain English, that means that it will filter out just about all the microscopic dust particulates from the air, therefore greatly reducing the amount of dust in the air. |

| Question : |
I was wondering, since the PCI process is invisible, and the only indication that the unit is making ions are the green and blue indicatior lights, is there any way to tell if there is a problem with the ion generation process?
i.e. if the generation mechanism fails for any reason would the indicator lights still illuminate or do they only work if the ion generator is functioning properly?
Thanks |
| Answer : |
Don,
Excellent question. Our units have been on the market in Asia for almost 4 years and due to the design of the ion generator the occurance of generator failures is almost non-existent. An easy way for you to tell at home if the generator is working is simply to place the unit on high and smell the air coming out of the unit. When operating in clean mode, you will smell/sense a clearly energized feeling in the air. This is due to the high concentration of energized particles. That may sound odd now, but once you try it I think you will understand! Let me know how it goes once you try it. |

| Question : |
I just recently bought the fp-n25cx. After seting it up and turning it on - i noticed a chemical smell to the air coming out of it - ive been running it now for 2 days and the smell is still there.
filters were removed from the plastic and installed as per directions. I can also smell the chemical smell wheter or not the ion generator is on (plasmacluster light off) - it seems to be coming from the filters themselves or the unit. This smell bothers me - Id preffer the air to have no smell at all. I had the unit on in the bedroom with me the last two nights - the first night i had to turn it off at 1am. The second night i fought the urge to turn it off and woke up in the morning with a headache.
So what could this smell be? I dont think its ozone - cause firstly - i know what that smells like - and secondly - i get the smell from the unit with the pci turned off. |
| Answer : |
Occassionally, there will be a chemical smell from the charcoal filter during the first week or so of operation. This is primarily due to loose charcoal particles that occur when the product is bounced around a bit during shipping. I recommend giving the filter a gentle shake outside to remove any loose particles and then give it a few more days. Also, when you are not at home, place the unit on max speed as this will also help to clear up the effect. |

| Question : |
Is it only the FRN 60 CX that is ultra quiet? How much louder is the FRN40 CX?
Does this also produce the same "fresh mountain air " effect that a negative ionizer does? |
| Answer : |
All three Plasmacluster models are equipped with a "Silent" mode. In "Silent" mode the units make almost no noise at all while still effectively purifying the air.
All units also come equipped with "Ion Control" mode (the Green button on the remote control). In this mode, the unit disperses a greater ratio of Negative Ions to Positive Ions. The reason this mode is included is because some customers have the perception that Negative Ion rich environments are refreshing, like "Mountain Fresh Air". However, for the true cleaning properties as described by Plasmacluster's ACTIVE technology, we recommend to keep the unit on "Clean Mode" (the Blue button on the remote control). This showers the room with an equal proportion of Positive and Negative Ions that is essential to effectively inactivating surrounding airborne contaminants. |

| Question : |
Does your ion air purifier emit ozone during its cleaning process? I have seen these units promoted on websites for owners of exotic parrots. Clean air is very important for those of us living with parrots, however their respiratory systems are far more sensitive to humans and even small amounts of ozone could be fatal to a parrot.
We looked into the Sharper Images Ionic breeze air cleaners, but found that they do emit ozone when in operation.
Could you please let us know if your air purifiers also emit ozone?
Thanks,
Chris Arnold

| Answer : |
Chris,
Ozone is an issue that has gotten a lot of press in recent years. Our Plasmacluster Ion air purifiers generate less than 0.001 ppm, or more than 50 times less than the legal limit. I'm not an expert on parrots, but hopefully this helps.

| Question : |
how safe is hydroxyl radicical to people? I heard it may damage my dna like ozone?
Im pregnant with kids, is there any concern with how it will affect children or pregnant women? what studies do you have that show it is safe? how long have hydroxyl units been on the market? has there been enought time to study its safety? |
| Answer : |
Tamra,
Thank you for your question. The most important thing to understand about Plasmacluster Ion Technology is that the only thing we generate are ions. We do not generate Hydroxyl. We generate positive and negative ions (the only system in the world that does). From there on, Mother Nature takes over. If these ions are abundant enough to accumulate on a microscopic airborne particle like a virus or mold spore, they will combine to momentarily create hydroxyl (OH). OH is very unstable and will only exist for a fraction of a second, but it is in this time that it will steal hydrogen from anything it is in contact with, thereby inactivating it.
So how is it safe for us? Simply put, if the ions are not allowed to acumulate on the surface they cannot not reach a high enough density to create hydroxyl. When these individual ions come in contact with our bodies, our much larger electrical field immediately neutralizes them. Therefore, Plasmacluster is only effective on microscopic airborne contaminants.
These units have been on the market in Japan for almost 4 years now, and have quickly become the top selling air purifier in that country.
Thanks,

| Question : |
Hello, I am currently using a Honeywell Air Purifier with a HEPA filter for my cat dander allergies. I noticed in the description of "How It Works" on your website that there is no mention whether PCI is effective against pet allergies. I understand the product employs a HEPA filter itself, but what advantage would I have using PCI over my own HEPA air purifier with regards to my dander allergies?
|
| Answer : |
The distinct advantage to PCI's TRUE HEPA filter is its effective life. With the FPN40CX or FPN60CX, you are looking at 3-5 years life based on average use. Our FPN25CX's True HEPA filter lasts 2 years. As you probably already know, True HEPA Filters can filter out 99.97% of all airborne particles 0.3 microns or larger. In plain English, that means those microscopic dust particles and pet allergens that cause allergic reactions. Other factors to consider are the power of the fan and motor. This indirectly affects the overall effectiveness of an air purifier. The stronger the motor and fan, the more air that it can pull into the filters. Our Plasmacluster Air Purifiers all come equipped with a heavy-duty DC motor, which ensures continous power and energy efficiency.
In addition to the filters however, you cannot overlook Plasmacluster's critical difference. The ACTIVE Postive and Negative Ions that shower a room to "scrub" the air clean is what sets us apart from every other air purifier on the market. While filters make up only the PASSIVE portion of the technology, it is the ACTIVE portion of the technology that work to inactivate the various airborne contaminants in the air. |

|
| Question : |
What is the cost of each of the various sizes?
Do I need one in each room? |
| Answer : |
Currently (9/23/04), the MSRP for the PCI Air Purifiers are as follows.
FPN25CX - $299.99
FPN40CX - $599.99
FPN60CX - $699.99
The coverage in Square Footage is as follows.
FPN25CX - 132 square feet
FPN40CX - 252 square feet
FPN60CX - 330 square feet
In terms of application, you do not necessarily need one for every room in the house. Our Plasmacluster Ion Technology has been proven over 90% effective in less than 1 hour. As a result, many of our customers have had great success moving it from room to room. All three models have a handle on the back of the unit allowing you to move it from room to room. For example, keep the unit in the living room or family room while having dinner or watching TV with the family. Then, 1 hour before you go to bed, pick it up and move it to the bedroom so that you can be fully protected through the night. This is the best way to get the most of our Plasmacluster Air Purifiers.

We have made the PCI Filter Replacement Kits available to all accounts that carry Plasmacluster Ion Air Purifiers. Currently, (9/21/04), they are stocked in The Bay, but will be available through all of our other PCI accounts shortly. They are sold as a kit, consisting of 1 x True HEPA Filter, and 1 x Washable Charcoal Filter* (*Washable only in the FPN40CX and FPN60CX*) The MSRP for the Filter Replacement Kits are as follows.
Filter Replacement Kit for the FPN25CX - $89.99
Filter Replacement Kit for the FPN40CX - $159.99
Filter Replacement Kit for the FPN60CX - $169.99
The Filter Life for the True HEPA filter and Charcoal filter is 2 years for the FPN25CX, and 3-5 years on the FPN40CX & FPN60CX based on average use. |

| Question : |
Which household cleaners do you recommend for cleaning the charcoal deodarant filter in the plasmacluster air purifier. It says in brochure to use a household cleaner....are we talking dish detergent type or something else. Please advise asap. My filter change light is on on my unit and I dont want to use the wrong type of product to clean it. |
| Answer : |
To properly clean the Washable Charcoal filter (FPN40CX and FPN60CX models only), we recommend using a household cleaner and water solution such as Pine Sol or Mr. Clean and letting the filter soak in this overnight. Next, remove the Washable Charcoal filter from the solution and allow it to completely dry (approx. 24hrs). Make sure that the filter is completely dry before placing it back into the unit. Finally, make sure to reset the filter indicator light on the unit once you have finished cleaning and replacing the Washable Charcoal Filter. To do this, simply locate your Plasmacluster Remote Control and point it towards the unit. Using a pen or pencil, depress the small button on the top right portion of the remote labelled "FILTER RESET". You will notice the Filter Light go off. This resets the Filter timer so that it will remind you the next time you need to wash the filter. |
